Educated at Epsom College, Surrey, Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Middlesex Hospital, London, Professor Narula qualified in 1979. He became Registrar and Senior Registrar at Nottingham and Leicester before being appointed as Consultant ENT Surgeon in Leicester in 1989. Profession Narula worked there for 12 years becoming Associate Medical Director before moving to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London where he was a Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and an Honorary Consultant at Chelsea and Westminster and Royal Brompton Hospitals. In 2014, Professor Narula took early retirement to concentrate on his private practice and further develop his medical charity work. He now lectures in most parts of the world.
Professor Narula is an associate professor at University of Plymouth School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has also been national clinical lead for ENT for the NHS Modernisation Agency, winning a Beacon award in 1999 for waiting list management and innovation. Professor Narula has served as president of both the Association of Otolaryngologists in training and the Young Consultant Otolaryngologists. He was editor of the CME Bulletin Otolaryngology and also instigated a diploma course for GPs to learn more about Otolaryngology (Dip ENT).
Professor Narula is very interested in my medical charity work, teaching and research to improve treatment and care for all ENT patients.
In 2015, he co-founded The Global Tracheostomy Collaborative, a global multidisciplinary collaborative of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, patients and families committed to improving care for all children and adults with tracheostomies. They provide educational materials, change strategies and an international outcomes database. In 2019, Professor Narula became Vice President of the Confederation of British Surgery and I continue to be Chairman of the Board of MediX cover ltd.
Until his retirement, he was heavily involved in research and teaching including; the Post Graduate ENT Diploma for GPs, membership of ENT training committees and exam boards at various levels.
Professor Narula is an English speaker and enjoy playing golf and spending time with his family.
