What are Crohn’s and Colitis?

Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis are the two main forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Crohn’s Disease causes inflammation of the digestive system, affecting the body’s ability to digest food, absorb nutrients and eliminate waste in a healthy way and can cause redness, swelling and pain. It is referred to as a chronic condition meaning it is life-long and at present there is no cure. Individuals diagnosed with Crohn’s may have periods of flare ups when symptoms are more prominent, as well as having periods of good health.
