Mr Gary Atkin graduated from Manchester University and underwent specialist training in Colorectal Surgery at St Mark’s Hospital, the internationally-renowned centre for gastrointestinal disease. He completed a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital before taking up his consultant post in 2010. He is a consultant surgeon and lead clinician for colorectal cancer at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
His main interest is in the treatment of bowel cancer, using laparoscopic (key-hole) and robotic surgical techniques. He also treats non-cancerous bowel conditions, such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures and fistulas, and also commonly performs hernia repair and gall bladder removal surgery. In addition he performs endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Mr Atkin always tries to adopt a compassionate and personal approach, ensuring patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their treatment.
