Mr Houlihan-Burne trained in London with a fellowship in Bristol specialising in sports injury and knee surgery. He has worked for 11 years in the NHS as a trauma and knee surgeon. In 2015 he moved full time into private practice treating both professional and amateur athletes.
As a former triathlete, rugby player and marathon runner, Mr Houlihan-Burne naturally moved into the field of sports injuries and knee surgery. It is a field of rapidly expanding technologies and being in private practice he feels he is able to be at the forefront of these technologies, involved in research and development for improving the care of patients with cartilage or ligament injuries and those with arthritis as well. He is pioneering robotic assisted surgery for knee replacement to improve the patient journey and speed up recovery from this surgery.
