I completed my core medical training through the North London rotation, which included the Royal Brompton and Harefield Trusts as well Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals, obtaining MRCP in 2010.
My initial cardiology training including cardiac imaging was at Harefield Hospital, as an imaging fellow before moving to the East of England deanery for SpR training. I trained at busy District General Hospitals before moving to the high- volume Essex cardiothoracic centre. I gained experience in advanced imaging including stress echo (for ischemia and dynamic valve studies), Trans-oesophageal echo and Cardiac CT as well as in pacemaker implantation during this time.
I have been a consultant cardiologist at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust since 2017. While I see patients with all aspects of cardiac pathology, I have a special interest in advanced imaging (Echo, stress echo, Transoesophageal echo and cardiac CT).
I am currently the departmental lead for echocardiography as well as the lead for clinical governance.
I have a special interest in premature coronary artery disease and subclinical coronary artery disease i.e. detection prior to symptoms. This also formed the basis of my MD at Imperial College London, supported by a Research Council UK fellowship. The research involved assessing ethnic differences in cardiovascular risk in patients without known coronary artery disease with use of Cardiac CT, Nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging and echocardiography. I have over 10 years in all the above imaging modalities and now train juniors/ non specialists in these techniques.
The research led to an MD from Imperial College London and multiple high impact presentations and publications.
I have a keen interest in valvular heart disease and cardiac imaging. As a result, I am the departmental lead for echocardiography and also lead the heart valve surveillance service at West Hertfordshire NHS trust.
I enjoy interaction with my patients and spend as much time with them as needed to get both a clear diagnosis and clarification of all the findings and diagnosis to the patient. I ensure that they understand their disease, prognosis and future plans as well as rational for ongoing treatment. This allows for individualised medicine as far as possible, as well as shared decision making.
