  • What is clinical hypnotherapy?

Clinical Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of physical and psychological symptoms. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation during which suggestions for desired changes to unwanted thoughts, feelings or behaviours (or habits) are readily accepted by the unconscious mind to bring about beneficial outcomes.

  • Is clinical hypnosis safe?

Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe and there are no harmful side effects.

  • What happens when I am under hypnosis and can I control what's happening?

Many people worry they will not respond to hypnosis but over 85% achieve light trance. During light trance, your eyes are shut and your body feels relaxed but you are completely aware of where you are, what is being said to you and you remain in control for the whole session. It is often described as the body being asleep whilst the mind remains awake.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and also depends on the issues to be addressed. Some people find they get benefit from just one session, whilst more usual is 2-3 sessions and sometimes more. The hypnosis in follow up sessions is "tailor-made" to the individual using information gleaned in the first session.

  • What happens during and after my session?

Sessions are an hour long during which a full history of the issues and the impact on an individuals life are discussed. The methods of hypnotherapy are explained and likely outcomes. The hypnosis is then performed and recorded so that it can be listened to again at home which helps with reinforcement. Some changes are instant such as cessation of nail biting, thumb sucking, smoking whereas others are more gradual such as lessening of anxiety, fears, phobias etc. It is advised to listen to the hypnosis for a week or so before deciding whether further sessions are needed or desired.

Paediatric Hypnotherapy

Children often respond very well to hypnotherapy and it can used in a wide variety of conditions including sleep problems, anxiety, confidence, breaking unwanted habits such as thumb sucking or nail biting and bedwetting.  Hypnotherapy is suitable for children of 7 years and over.
