What makes Allurion different?

Allurion is the world’s first and only gastric balloon that doesn’t require surgery, endoscopy or anaesthesia. The balloon comes contained in a capsule that you swallow during a 15-minute session with your Consultant, and it passes naturally and painlessly when the treatment finishes after approximately 16 weeks.

But Allurion is so much more than a procedure, it’s a 6-month, comprehensive weight loss and lifestyle programme designed to improve your nutritional awareness and recalibrate your relationship with food. By reinforcing healthy habits and having a better understanding of nutrition, you’ll be able to maintain your weight loss long after the balloon leaves your body.

What makes Allurion so effective

The Allurion programme is effective because it works in 3 ways:

01 Non-invasive Gastric Balloon

The Allurion Balloon is filled with saline solution which helps you reduce food intake by taking up space in your stomach, so you feel full faster and for longer.

02 Motivational Support

For 6 months you'll have the support of a dedicated team who keep updated on your progress using our Allurion connected scales, and the Allurion app and health tracker.

03 Nutritional Education

For 6 months you'll have access to a nutritionist who will help you re-evaluate your relationship with food and eating. They'll help you learn to make healthier food choices and develop sustainable habits that will set you up for success well after the balloon has passed.

How does Allurion Work?

The Allurion Balloon is a safe, non-permanent, non-invasive weight loss solution that comes recommended by doctors. If you've struggled with weight loss over the years and want to find a sensible, sustainable solution, Allurion can help. With an average loss of 10-15% of your body weight in just 16 weeks it comes fully backed with a 6-month package of support.

Does it hurt?

About one-third of patients do experience abdominal pain and nausea immediately after having the balloon inserted and after it has been inflated. You'll be given medication to help settle these symptoms and if you do experience these symptoms, they usually only last for a few days. Most people describe the process as uncomfortable rather than painful.

It's for this reason that we recommend you take it easy for 2-3 days following balloon insertion. We also provide 24/7 access to medical support?

How does it come out?

After about 16 weeks the filament that keeps the balloon sealed has fully degraded and the contents of the balloon gently seeps out into the stomach. The polyurethane membrane leaves the body naturally through the GI tract and the majority of patients don’t even notice it.
